Chicago was a blast.
MobTownArmy along with me and Sean had the time of our lives.
The event was the best event that Sean and I had ever witnessed and the city of Chicago was immaculately beautiful.
First, our trip on Air Tran was pitiful. We first had a delay of about 30-45 minutes and when the plane arrived we got on board on our way to the Hotlanta for our connecting flight to Chicago.
Once we got to Atlanta, we had very little time to get to our next flight so that we could get to the connection to Chicago. To our dismay, we missed the flight by 10 minutes and Air Tran couldn't even figure out that there were 25 people missing from the plane when they left us.
We had to wait another 3-4 hours before we could catch our next flight to Chicago and once aboard the plane, had another 45 minute delay so that we would be cleared of the weather in Chicago. Go Air Tran.
Once there, we got our rental cars, got to the hotels and got ready for the next day at the event.
Day One:
We got to the event bright and early and waited in line for our PSP ID's. We waited, waited, and waited and just when we got up to the window, the sky fell in with rain, heavy winds, and closure of the window in which we just got to. Go figure.
We went back to the hotels only to be called back to the event to proceed to get out ID's.
Once we got the ID's went and got ready for our first games at the pristine fields that were Bollingbrook Aquatic Center. The fields on the first day were the best fields we'd ever viewed with perfect grass, completely level and no ruts whatsoever.
Our first game involved playing Team Cruel in which we won in overtime play.
The second game we played B-Unit in which it was a topsey turvey battle with leads changing repeatedly.
In the final minutes, we tied them to go into overtime.
In overtime, they supposedly won the game but had a major penalty called against them with about a minute left on the clock. We protested the call and the Ultimate Judge claimed that because of the penalty, we won the game but B-Unit won the point. We continued to protest and finally got a game with B-Unit the following day to satisfy everyone with a minute left on the board to play and decide the game for either team.
Day2:
The day started with MTA having to play B-Unit first thing. Everybody suited up and played for the game and to see who goes to the next round.
We played until time ran out and would have to go to a one-on-one format to decide the winner. Mikey Moody got to play the first one on one and had to play for one minute and if it was still a stalemate, would send in another player for another one on one until somebody finally got the win.
Mikey played hard against his opponent, moving to the snake side and never got hit or hit his opponent.
Terry Stevens was then elected to play in the second one on one against another opponent and again, stalemated the one on one so that would leave Sean to battle it out for the win.
Sean went out, looking nervous but had all of his cool about him and went to play his opponent.
After 43 seconds of one on one battle between Sean and the opponent, Seans skills overwhelmed his opponent and gogged him repeatedly in the mask because the other guy kept coming out of his bunker in the same place.
Sean was the man and made his debut in the PSP with a convincing and critical win in which the team would now go on to the next round.
After all of the accolades given to Sean, we then concentrated on going against Illinois State team and got ready.
After beating Illinois State 5-4 we had the matchup against veteran team PBC Gridlock. This team is a well oiled machine that would be our toughest opponent in the event for this Division so got our game faces on and proceeded to battle.
PBC went up 2-0 on the first points but MTA came back with 2 wins to make it 2-2. PBC then went up another 2 points in which MTA would make it another point to stay alive in this tough game. PBC would then take the 5th point and would be our only defeat in this tournament. If we would've won against Gridlock, would have played on Sunday and not continued to play today. Our luck.
Our next and final game for the day would be the team from New Jersey, the Jersey Jesters.
We could tell we'd have a bad affair with them when the ref came to our pit and chastised us about coaching, and who would be the coaches, where they would be coaching, and that the refs would take no b.s. from us on calls. All calls would be major penalties because the minor just take up too much of their precious time so majors would be the rule of the game. (Gotta love the Jesters paying off the refs) Btw, the same chastising was never mentioned on the Jesters pit so you go figure how it came out.
MTA came out strong and got a commanding 4-2 lead with just one point needed to secure our win and another move up the ladder of stardom.
That's when things happened that we could not explain. We would lose point after point until the Jesters would tie us for some overtime play that again would decide our fate.
In overtime, it was pretty much a farse of luck that the Jesters, as sloppy of playing as they did, would win this in overtime and move up the ladder. We were bewildered at the outcome of the game and upon later findings (once back home), the Jesters have had a reputation for paying of judges and not only at major events, but at their homefields in which they played local people.
What a way to lose an event and have to go home in defeat.
On a sidenote, MTA, being sponsored by Evil had a great photo shoot and would be put on their website for all to see. This pretty much made up for the painful loss to the Jesters and considering there were 55 teams in the D3 events, wound up to be ranked 15th. Not bad MTA.
Day3:
Once we realized we would'nt be playing anymore, it was time to relax and enjoy the festivities at the event and to see Chicago.
We headed off to see the sites in Chicago, got a tour of the city in which it's the cleanest city that we've ever seen.
Later that evening, it was party time in which, well, I can't say as it would incriminate the poster and many others.
Day4:
MTA was so proud of Justins pitcrew work and James work that they got Justin a pair of Evil pants and James a Russian Legion Jersey by Evil as well. James proceeded to get his jersey signed by most of the guys from the Legion.
I know this was long but with an event like this, had to write about our adventure in our first PSP event.
This will be something we'll never forget and if I were to write more about this, would be many more pages in which I'm sure you wouldn't have time to read.
